IAPh-Italia, the Italian website of Women in Philosophy (
IAPh – Italia originates thanks to a cooperation with the creators of IAPh, the International Association of Women Philosophers, founded in 1974 in Würzburg, Germany.
Since the 1980s IAPh has organized biennial international Symposia in diverse places of the world. After the 2006 Symposium held in Rome – entitled “Thinking Experience” - the idea of an Italian branch of IAPh has arisen.

At this initial stage, IAPh-Italia website aims to promote information, discussion and co-operation among women – not only academics – engaged in teaching and researching who cultivate the passion for philosophy from women's perspective. (read more)

Prof. Nicla Vassallo (1963- ) studied philosophy at the University of Genova (Italy) and at King’s College – University of London. After receiving her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Science, she was appointed Research Fellow and then Researcher. In 2002 she qualified as Associate Professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the University of Catania and then in 2004 as Full Professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Bergamo. From 2003 to 2008 she taught Epistemology in the Psychology Faculty at the University Vita–Salute San Raffaele , Milan. Since 2005 she has been a Full Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Genova, where she taught Philosophical Propaedeutics, Philosophy of Knowledge and Epistemology. She now teach Theoretical Philosophy and is part of the teaching staff of the Doctorate in Philosophy. She has given talks in the most important Italian Universities and abroad in France, Denmark, Great Britain, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey.
Vassallo has written more than eighty articles in Italian and in English that have appeared in philosophical journals, edited books, conference proceedings, and encyclopedias, and has published eight books, edited four others, and coedited six more. Her latest soleauthored work is Per sentito dire. Conoscenza e testimonianza (There is a rumour – Feltrinelli, Milano 2011) and her latest coauthored work is Piccolo trattato di epistemologia (Small Treatise od epistemology – Codice Edizioni, Torino 2010); her most recent edited book is Donna m'apparve (Woman appears to me – Codice Edizioni, Torino 2009), and her most recent coedited book is Reason and Rationality (Ontos Verlag, Frankfurt, 2008) . She mainly works in the area of Analytic Philosophy. Her primary research and teaching areas are the Philosophy of Knowledge and the Epistemology. She also has serious research interests in Feminist Philosophies, Gender Studies, History and Philosophy of Logic, Metaphysics, Philosophical Naturalism and Scepticism. Email:
